Safety Leadership & Transformation Manager

The MærskMc-KinneyMøller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is looking for an experienced Safety Leadership & Transformation Manager. The right candidate is a change leader and able to drive the standardization and safety leadership of the maritime industry transition.  

Your responsibilities 

You will be deeply involved in the transformation and lead the technical, operational and risk related safety elements of impactful industry initiatives. 

The development of future ship design, port safety framework, human factor including operational practises, risk assessments and operational procedures for the safe handling of alternative fuels must be done in parallel with uptake of new technology onboard vessels and for low carbon fuel production and deployment 

As an examples, we are leading a major industry QRA and safety study on deployment of Ammonia as marine fuel and a ship-to-ship bunkering demonstration and QRA and safety standardization work on alternative fuels.  

Reporting to the Head of Onboard Vessel Solutions, your tasks are versatile and will include:            

  • Drive the safety leadership and change management mindset of the transition 
  • Anchor and develop the Center’s activities on safety design, risk management, human factor and standards    
  • Lead and support the scoping of port and bunkering initiatives with proper risk management and technical ship and bunkering operations  
  • Lead and project manage Center secondees and external stakeholder to deliver on international projects at industry standards 
  • Development of bunkering scenarios and industry standards of alternative fuels for different vessel types and fuel storage systems 
  • Supporting QRAs, HAZIDs, HAZOPs and other risk assessment work related to ship design development and bunkering of alternative fuels 
  • Advisor on safety management systems development and connect to crew competence and training development  
  • Lead and support the writing and development of operational procedures, safety checklists and emergency response plans for bunkering demonstrations of alternative fuels 
  • General technical and operational advisor to bunkering feasibility studies, demonstrations, and green corridor projects 

 Preferred Experience and competencies  

We expect that you have extensive relevant work experience with project and stakeholder management and a background as Master Mariner, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer and/or HSSEQ responsible within marine and/or oil & gas.

Furthermore, the preferred candidate has: 

  • Experience in ship and port operations incl. marine bunkering and cargo handling LNG, LPG, or Chemicals 
  • Regulatory and safety management experience and knowledge for example ISM, IGF, IGC, MARPOL & SOLAS, TMSA & OCIMF SIRE 
  • Risk management methodologies and safety procedures knowledge incl RA, MoC, HAZID and HAZOPs 
  •  SMS and crew safety standards and training experience  
  •  Experience from dry bulk, tankers and or container vessel segments 
  •  A can-do attitude – willingness to do what it takes in a start-up environment
