SECONDEE: Fuel LCA and environmental impact specialist

TERMS

Your current home employer remains your employer during the period in which you perform your contribution to the Center.

Thus, the employer obligations will remain with your home employer including payment of all compensation, salaries, remuneration and costs owed to you as an employee, as well as any social or employment related taxes and all associated costs and expenses.

OVERVIEW

The LCA and Environmental Impact team at the Center leads projects supporting the application of lifecycle assessment methodology to support the path to zero greenhouse gases emissions and improved sustainability of the maritime industry. 

Joins us as secondee by participating to accelerate the development and application of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies for maritime fuels regulations on the path to reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and improving their sustainability. 

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in lifecycle assessment and its application in fuels regulation to contribute towards building the knowledge needed to conduct and reinforce lifecycle assessments methodologies of alternate maritime fuels and inform an environmentally sound decarbonization of the shipping industry regulation.  

The focus of your work will be to support the Center with analytical excellence in the areas of climate impact of alternative maritime fuels with a special focus on LCA methodology and its implication in maritime fuels regulation.  

ORGANIZATION AND TEAM

Chief Technology Officer - Energy & Fuels > Head of LCA and Environmental Impact > Secondee

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES 

You will work with our in-house cross value chain specialists as well as subject matter experts from our Center and our global portfolio of partners.

You will participate in supporting the following activities: 

  • Consolidating and reinforcing the in-house LCA methodology for calculating the GHG intensity of alternative marine fuels.
  • Identification and analysis of GHG emission reduction potential associated with alternate maritime fuel pathways. 
  • Identifying LCA methodological differences and interpretate methodological consequences on alternate maritime fuels GHG intensity. 
  • Identifying and quantify potential environmental risks of alternate maritime fuels pathways. 
  • Collaborate with in-house cross value chain specialists and projects stakeholders for consolidating lifecycle inventories libraries for the different well-to-wake lifecycle stages. 
  • Performing process analysis to identify and quantify products and co-products heat & mass balances. 
  • Applying fuel lifecycle assessment methodologies on various alternate maritime fuel WTW pathways 
  • Participate in maritime fuels LCA methodology, GHG emission position and environmental impacts papers and presentations 
  • Participate in maritime fuels LCA methodology and GHG emission position papers and presentations your analysis and interpretation of LCA methodologies application to the regulatory landscape pertaining to the maritime fuels. For example, IMO, RED II, CORSIA, Fuel EU Maritime. 

You will be joining a specialized Energy and Fuels team with an extensive knowledge of e-fuel, biofuel and LCA development methodologies 

WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE

  • The ideal secondee comes with working experience in LCA application for fuels and its application for fuels certification.  

CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCES NEEDED

  • Hands-on experience with LCA and its application to fuels and regulations 
  • Knowledge in production and utilization pathways for alternate maritime fuels 
  • Knowledge of CO2 accounting practices such as IMO LCA draft methodologyGHG protocol, ISO 14040, and PEF 
  • Knowledge and passion for environmental protection, life cycle and systems thinking, climate change 
  • A working understanding of regulatory aspects relevant to LCA and environmental impacts 
  • Ability to understand technical processes description and heat & mass balances 
  • Ability to develop a good critical mind 
  • Proficiency in English
