SECONDEE: Safety Regulations / Alternative Technologies

TERMS

Your current home employer remains your employer during you are the period where you perform your contribution to the Center.

Thus, the employer obligations will remain with your home employer including payment of all compensation, salaries, remuneration and costs owed to you as an employee, as well as any social or employment related taxes and all associated costs and expenses.

OVERVIEW

Join us on our mission to decarbonize the shipping industry by leading and accelerating the deployment of alternative fuels. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills and contribute towards building the knowledge needed to drive regulatory reform and help develop a strong register of rules, standards, regulations, and legislation that focuses on the global supply chain of maritime fuels. The focus of your work will be to support the Regulations and Standards team with regulatory excellence in the areas of alternative marine fuels. You will work with teams across the center, from R&D as well as peer functions from our partner organizations. You will join the Business, Regulatory, and Analytics departments under the Regulatory team. The team you will be part of has regulatory intelligence spanning from safety on board ships to green corridors and is building extensive knowledge of fuel development and usage.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES 

  • Identification and analysis of maritime safety legislation across domestic, regional and international legislative outlets.
  • Advise on current topics and themes directed at safety regulation, climate impacts, and decarbonization.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the regulatory landscape pertaining to safety regulations
  • Support the team in formulating Center policy recommendations pertaining to especially towards MSC, CCC, PPR, committee and subcommittees.
  • Support the ongoing projects relating to Ammonia Safety, especially the ongoing correspondence group at IMO related to alternative fuels
  • Support the ongoing projects relating to innovative technologies: carbon capture, fuel cells, batteries.
  • Support developing a Center action plan in terms of the development of safety-related mandatory requirements.

CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCES NEEDED
  • Knowledge and passion for sustainability, supply chain of maritime fuels, and climate change.
  • A working understanding of alternative design procedures applicable to alternative fuels.
  • Possible previous experience in the development of new rules and regulations for alternative fuels and/or new technologies.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Naval Architect or Marine Engineer.
  • Hands-on experience or previous exposure to plan approval activities in classing ships.
  • Understanding of IMO Regulations, especially SOLAS, IGC, IGF and MARPOL.
