Media Engagement Partner

The Mission

The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is a global leader in the transition towards sustainable and environmentally responsible shipping practices. Our mission is to drive the development and implementation of innovative solutions to achieve zero carbon shipping, protecting our planet's future while advancing the maritime industry and we are now looking for an experienced Media Partner to drive our engagement with global media and manage our media engagement. 

We have fantastic colleagues who develop new knowledge, technical solutions, business frameworks, and regulatory advice, and in the Communications team, we make sure the knowledge is communicated efficiently to the stakeholders across the industry in a way that encourages them to accelerate the decarbonization of the global maritime industry.

The Opportunity

As our new Media Engagement Partner, your job will have two primary focus areas:

  1. You will be in charge of maintaining and further developing the center’s media relationships across global news media and relevant trade media.
  2. In parallel, you will work closely with our project teams and subject matter experts internally to understand the impact of their work and design effective external amplification. This includes coaching and support to Center spokespeople on all levels of the organization.

You will be vital in maximizing the reach and impact of the Center’s work and supporting the achievement of our vision for sustainable decarbonization of the maritime industry by 2050. This includes end-to-end responsibility from advising on the right media engagement approach over planning and content creation to delivery and measuring impact.

While you are expected to take individual responsibility, your work will be fully integrated in Center campaigns developed and delivered in close collaboration with your colleagues in the Comms team, Center project teams, partners and other teams like Public Affairs, Partnerships and Strategy. The scope also covers close collaboration with Comms teams in the relevant partner companies globally.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Advisor to Center leadership team, project teams and subject matter experts on media engagement strategies in line with the overall Center targets and ambitions
  • Working closely with colleagues on the Comms team to ensure external communications are aligned with and help further develop the Center’s brand
  • Researching and compiling lists of relevant media outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers with a focus on key geographies for the maritime sector
  • Drafting press releases to announce news, events, product launches, or other noteworthy developments within the organization.
  • Developing media kits, fact sheets, backgrounders, and other materials that provide journalists with essential information about new insights or solutions.
  • Crafting and sending personalized pitches to journalists and media outlets to garner interest in covering specific stories or angles related to the organization. This involves identifying unique angles and hooks that make the story newsworthy.
  • Responding to inquiries from journalists, bloggers, and other media professionals in a timely and professional manner. This may involve coordinating interviews, providing information and resources, or arranging access to spokespeople.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors, bloggers, and influencers through regular communication, networking events, and other outreach efforts. This includes organizing press events and media briefings to attract attention.
  • Tracking and monitoring media coverage to help document effect and impact of campaigns.
  • Providing media training to organizational spokespeople to help them effectively communicate key messages and handle interviews with journalists.
  • Analyzing media coverage, monitoring key metrics, and evaluating the impact of media relations efforts.

Who are we looking for? May 

We are looking for a Media Engagement Partner with strong verbal and written communication skills who can comfortably and effectively convey messages to media professionals, whether it's through press releases, pitches, or direct interactions.

To succeed in this role, you must combine a strategic mindset with a pragmatic, structured, and efficient approach. Ideally, you recognize yourself in the following description:  

 You have 4-5 years’ experience working in strategic media relations management advising from agency, consultancy or corporate organizations.

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills - preferably, you are a native English speaker.
  • You build relations easily both internally and with journalists, editors, bloggers, and other media influencers. This involves networking, cultivating trust, and understanding their needs and preferences.
  • You are a strategic thinker and understand how to align media outreach with broader organizational goals and adapt strategies based on changing circumstances.
  • You enjoy crafting compelling narratives and angles that resonate with journalists and their audiences.
  • You are committed to optimizing center impact by staying up to date with current events, industry trends, and the evolving media landscape.
  • You have strong organizational and project management skills allowing you to juggle multiple tasks, deadlines, and relationships simultaneously.
  • You have excellent collaboration skills, a constructive mindset and can work effectively within a team, leveraging the expertise of others to achieve shared goals.

The position is full-time and based in our office in Nordhavn/Copenhagen.
