SECONDEE: Vessel Performance Analyst

TERMS

Your current home employer remains your employer during the period in which you perform your contribution to the Center.

Thus, the employer obligations will remain with your home employer including payment of all compensation, salaries, remuneration, and costs owed to you as an employee, as well as any social or employment-related taxes and all associated costs and expenses.

OVERVIEW

Join us on our mission to decarbonize the shipping industry by leading and accelerating the adoption of energy efficiency measures across the global shipping industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your analytical skills in vessel performance. The projects you will join aim at delivering recommendations for how to improve operational and technical efficiency of ships. With your role as project team member, you will deliver analysis of collected data onboard and test and develop new vessel performance methodologies together with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) both in the Center but also externally as part of different joint industry projects. Over time, and as you gain experience in delivering projects at the Center, this role could develop into a technical project manager role for vessel performance related activities as well as engaging with other domains such as Ship Design and Technology supporting the decarbonisation journey of the industry.
 

ORGANIZATION AND TEAM

You will join the Fleet Performance and Energy Efficiency team, within the Fleet Transition Impact Hub.

 

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Contribute to Energy Efficiency projects by delivering analysis of vessel performance data
  • Co-develop new methods for vessel performance analysis, such asthe benefit of different energy efficiency measures with in-service measurements or the impact of new Energy Efficiency regulations.
  • Scope tasks related to vessel performance analysis in close collaboration with the head of Fleet Performance and Energy Efficiency.
  • Work closely with other SMEs (both center staff and secondees) to deliver projects.
  • Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in multi-discipline projects, both within center partners but also with externally funded projects

 

WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE

  • The ideal candidate can analyse vessel performance data, generate empirical or numerical models of ships from model tests, sea trials and engine shop tests as well as normalize performance data to environmental force components from e.g. wind and waves.
  • In addition, the candidate should be familiar with how data is collected onboard ships (vessel performance systems) and the use of other onboard energy efficiency related systems such as, voyage planning and weather routing.
  • Knowledge on the different challenges related to data quality to carry out vessel performance analysis will also be needed for delivering effective analyses.
  • Basic understanding of current energy efficiency measures such as EEDI, EEXI and CII would also be needed in order to support the analytical tasks on regulatory measures.

CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES NEEDED

  • Analytical capabilities with focus on large data sets requiring some scripting both for data analysis and result visualization
  • Proficiency in English as a language for all types of communication.
  • Proficiency in using MS tools (Excel, Word, Power point, Excel).
  • Proficiency in setting up and hosting interactive project meetings

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • 2 to 5 years of experience delivering technical projects within a shipping company, class society, ship design firm, marine technology vendor, marine digital solutions provider or similar
  • Working experience in vessel performance related activities (performance analysis and management, voyage planning, weather routing, etc.
  • Familiar with data analytics, data mining, data visualization and data regression modelling
