The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is real climate action. We are a not-for-profit, independent research and development center looking to accelerate the transition towards a net-zero future for the maritime industry. With our partners, we drive and facilitate the development and implementation of new technologies; build confidence in new concepts and mature viable strategic ways to drive the required systemic and regulatory change. Our R&D activities are structured to support the need for technological advancements and we assess the individual solutions, their gaps and risks to increase transparency and de-risk decision making.

The Opportunity

The role is Copenhagen-based, and due to the nature of the position, we’re unable to offer hybrid arrangements — so living in or moving to Denmark is essential to be considered for this role.

We are seeking a forward-thinking Energy System Analyst to join our Energy & Fuels team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, embraces complexity, and is passionate about shaping the future of energy systems. You will lead independent analyses and develop strategic scenarios that inform our pathways to net zero, exploring fuel options, transition roadmaps, and long-term sustainability strategies.

 

Who You Are

You are a strong economist, financial analyst or energy systems specialist who possesses a combination of interpersonal, economic, financial and strategic skills.

To succeed in this role, you must combine a strategic mindset with a pragmatic, structured and efficient approach. You must be an effective communication that can explain complex information to non-specialists. Ideally, you recognize yourself in the following description:

  • Advanced degree in Economics, Business, Energy Management or similar
  • Demonstrated work experience in business or data analysis within global energy and commodity markets, and solid understanding of cross-sector dynamics
  • Strategic mindset with a systems-thinking approach to the energy transition challenge and understanding of the role technology and innovation play in addressing climate change
  • Ability to assess techno-economic feasibility of different fuel options under varying regulatory and market conditions Ability to think independently and creatively, challenge assumptions, and propose innovative solutions
  • Ability to work and manage projects effectively and good collaboration skills  
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ever-changing work environment

 

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor global trends in energy and commodity markets (fuel and food commodities related to biofuels) while maintaining a holistic view of the energy ecosystem, and identifying interdependencies and long-term implications
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses on energy systems and fuel pathways, including biofuels, hydrogen, e-fuels, and emerging alternatives
  • Develop and evaluate scenarios for energy transition, considering technical, economic, regulatory, geopolitical and environmental dimensions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (our data analytics team, engineering, policy, sustainability) to align insights with operational and strategic goals
  • Visualize and narrate possible energy transition scenarios and market developments on a global and regional basis to support decision-making across fuel optionalities and net zero roadmaps
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders with clarity and strategic foresight
