The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is a not-for-profit leader in the transition towards sustainable and environmentally responsible shipping practices. Our mission is to drive the development and implementation of innovative solutions to achieve zero carbon shipping, protecting our planet's future while advancing the maritime industry. With a wide network of partners, we build confidence in new concepts and mature viable pathways to drive systemic change.

The Opportunity

As R&D Communications Partner, you will work closely with our interdisciplinary R&D teams to create high-quality, impactful reports, position papers, and other communication products. You will be part of an amazing team of communication professionals reporting to our Head of Communication and Advocacy.  

Your role will include many different tasks, with an overarching goal of supporting effective and credible external communication of the Center’s insights and analysis on scientific and technical topics. These topics could range from engineering and fuel production to regulation and economics.  

Our communication and advocacy approach emphasizes audience-led communication and strategic selection of format and register to reach the right stakeholders, in the right way, at the right time. As a result, you will have the opportunity to work with different subject matter, formats, and communication goals across different projects. In some cases, you will lead development and production of communication products, while in others you will act as an advisor or editor.  

Your role will furthermore involve extensive collaboration both within the Communications team and with R&D teams across the Center. You will work as a partner to these collaborators, using your science communication expertise to advise on, review, and co-create communication products and strategies (primarily but not solely in written formats). A confident yet curious mindset and strong interpersonal communication and stakeholder management skills are therefore essential to your success.  

To help maintain the quality and flow of our communication pipeline, your role will also involve upholding established review and production processes. You will work on products with varying urgency, timeliness, and turnaround lengths while maintaining high standards for communication and branding.  

Who You Are

To succeed in this role, you must combine a scientific mindset with a flair for written communication. Ideally, you recognize yourself in the following description:   

‐         You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science/engineering and a qualification in communication, journalism, or science communication and/or equivalent work experience 

‐         You have a passion for writing and are skilled in creating clear, engaging content: articles, presentations, reports, infographics, whitepapers, etc.  

‐         Experience working with data visualization and visual reporting would be an advantage 

‐         You can quickly understand and translate complex scientific, technical, and regulatory concepts, and synthesize data and research findings into meaningful insights that support Center impact goals 

‐         You have an analytical and critical mindset and can apply this in a pragmatic and constructive manner 

‐         You are logical and structured, with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel while ensuring progress against different deadlines; your flexible and adaptable nature allows you to both work to a tight deadline and to maintain traction on a long-term project  

‐         You connect easily with people, have strong stakeholder management skills, and are comfortable and confident engaging with researchers, engineers, and product developers at all levels of the organization 

‐         Experience from consultancy or other client facing roles would be an advantage 

‐         You are skilled in facilitating cross-functional meetings and interviews to gather information, and you thrive in in diverse, international teams 

What You’ll Do

‐         Writing and editing publications – such as scientific/technical reports, position papers, and strategies – based on the outputs from Center R&D teams 

‐         Creating or reviewing/editing content for digital formats like web articles, newsletters, landing pages, and digital tools   

‐         Supporting high quality in our communication products by advising R&D teams and Communications colleagues on aspects of science communication such as clarity, accuracy, use of evidence, academic integrity, tailoring to target audience, etc.  

‐         Drafting executive summaries and key messages  

‐         Supporting consistent implementation of the Center’s publication production processes across projects  

‐         Ensuring consistent messaging in communication products that supports the strategic intent of the projects and the Center in general 

‐         Routine editorial tasks e.g., making abbreviation lists, ensuring documents are consistent with our style guide  

What we expect from you

‐         You can follow established systems and processes for content planning and publication workflows 

‐         You have the following interpersonal skills: active listening, empathy, adaptability, and patience  

‐         You are detail-oriented and find reviewing and ‘polishing’ fulfilling  

‐         You have an excellent command of spoken and written English across various registers 

‐         You are familiar with tools like SharePoint, MS Office, and CMS platforms
