SECONDEE: Vessel Performance Manager

TERMS

Your current home employer remains your employer during you are the period where you perform your contribution to the Center.

Thus, the employer obligations will remain with your home employer including payment of all compensation, salaries, remuneration, and costs owed to you as an employee, as well as any social or employment-related taxes and all associated costs and expenses.

OVERVIEW

Join us on our mission to decarbonize the shipping industry by leading and accelerating the adoption of energy efficiency measures across the global shipping industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your experience in vessel performance to lead projects within energy efficiency as well as deliver content as a subject matter expert. The projects you will manage will have a central role delivering recommendations for how to improve operational and technical energy efficiency for all ship segments in the industry and you will guide project team members through the analysis of data collected onboard ships and the development of new vessel performance methodologies.

You will join the Fleet Performance team, who is a part of the Onboard Vessel Solutions department at the center.

ORGANIZATION AND TEAM

Chief Technology Officer - Onboard Vessel Solutions Officer > Head of Ship Design > Secondee.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage and deliver projects related to vessel and fleet performance activities
  • Ideate new projects as well as scope tasks, estimate budgets and timelines together with the head of Fleet Performance and the Fleet Performance and Transformation manager and in close collaboration with all program managers at the Center.
  • Co-develop new methods for vessel performance analysis, such as the impact of waiting time on vessel emissions, the benefit of different energy efficiency measures with in-service measurements of existing and novel technologies, the impact of new Energy Efficiency regulations, the role of ports on vessel performance and ideas related to standardisation of onboard data collection and data sharing.
  • Work closely with other SMEs (both center staff and secondees) to deliver projects.
  • Lead strategic areas of the fleet performance domain in OVS
  • Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in multi-discipline projects, both within center partners but also with externally funded projects.
  • Actively advocate the findings in the projects you participate in order to drive the right behaviours across the industry

WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE

  • The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing vessel and fleet performance projects from a ship owner, operator, technical manager, technology vendor, consultant or class society backgrounds and is very familiar with the challenges in the adoption of energy efficiency measures in a fragmented shipping industry
  • In addition, the candidate should be familiar with vessel performance analytical methods, how data is collected onboard ships (vessel performance systems), data quality best practices, and the use of other onboard energy efficiency related systems such as, voyage planning and weather routing.
  • Awareness of current energy efficiency regulatory measures such as EEDI, EEXI and CII would also be needed in order to support the strategy of the Fleet Performance domain.
  • Knowledge on engagement with crew onboard ships and how to create a shared reality between ship and shore will also be relevant for the success delivery of strategic projects in the domain.

CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES NEEDED

  • Applied project management methods and tools
  • Analytical capabilities with focus on large data sets requiring some scripting both for data analysis and result visualization
  • Proficiency in English as a language for all types of communication.
  • Proficiency in using MS tools (Excel, Word, Power point, Excel).
  • Proficiency in setting up and hosting interactive project meetings

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
 
  • 5 to 10 years of experience leading and delivering technical projects within a shipping company, class society, ship design firm, marine technology vendor, marine digital solutions provider or similar.
  • Working experience in vessel performance related activities (performance analysis and management, voyage planning, weather routing, etc.,,)
  • Familiar with data analytics, data mining, data visualization and data regression modelling
  • Some exposure on how to develop and deliver standards or best practices in the industry
